August 2016 Newsdumpster

AUGUST 2016

And Now This. . .

Greetings from Sheldon, Iowa. As we begin the second and final month of our 2016 Into the Cornfield Tour of the mostly Midwest, we got to thinking how this Newsdumpster doesn't actually contain much news, which we tend to find boring. Since we couldn't think of anything else, we thought we'd go with news this month. So here it is: news:

  • On Long Island, after our first show this tour, the Blue Meanie's fuel pump decided that 235,000 miles was far enough. It was under the knife for five days while we enjoyed several walking tours of Rockville Centre.
  • Our most excellent friend, Red Head, brought us to Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania, which has been packing drawers since 1926.
  • It got way, way, too hot for a long time.
  • We had our first real Chicago-style pizza and we have been moved.
  • We spent a day at Wisconsin's legendary House on the Rock, a sprawling museum dedicated to the fever dreams of one highly feverish man.
  • We were honored to be among the official showcase judges for the 2016 Folk Alliance Region Midwest conference. So if you didn't get in, it was probably our fault.
  • Sadly, our treasured Grand Canyon snow globe sprung a leak and had to be discarded. Happily, it was replaced by a House on the Rock snow globe nearly as excellent.
  • At the end of this month, we begin our 2016 Double-Crossing the Pond Tour of the British Isles, which starts with our first-ever visit to both Irelands.
  • We've noticed that many parks and campgrounds feature disc golf, which appears to involve chains.

There are already too many photos in our 2016 Into the Cornfield Tour photo album.
