Okay, Men's Haircuts Can Get a Little Creepy in the Midwest.
Welcome to June, which also happens to be the sixth and last and final full month of our 2017 Further West-World Tour. After breezing into Los Angeles from London early in May, we've trundled up through California, Oregon and Washington, where we are now. We're touring our way back east until we get home to Vermont in mid-July. The scenery in the US changes as you travel the northern route from west to east, sometimes dramatically, sometimes subtley, sometimes subtitledly. Here are a few of those changes that we have noticed over the years:
- As soon as you're off the coast, America looks like it got stuck in the printer until someone pulled it out halfway through Colorado.
- Best Foods mayonaise turns into Hellman's, even though it's the same stuff.
- States gradually become smaller.
- Pop turns into soda.
- The average age of a house increases by four years per state.
- Houses more horizontal, houses more vertical.
- No tolls, no tolls, tolls.
- Confident mountains, flat, insecure mountains.
- Fuel expensive, fuel cheap, fuel expensive.
We are now winding up our seventh photo album doumenting our 2017 Further West-World Tour. An eighth one is imminent. Here they are, so far:
Southern US, mainly: Part 1, Part 2.
New Zealand: Part 3, Part 4.
United Kingdom, Part 5, Part 6.
California, Oregon, Washington: Part 7.
Calling All Bucoholics.
Let's face it: you've always wanted a cute little shingled cape house on a lovely south-facing slope nestled among the bucolic rolling hills of southern Vermont. We surely did, and have loved this place for 15 years, except now we're buying our neighbor's house just down the bucolic rolling road, which will provide more room for a recording studio and Rebecca's Victorian novels. So let us be neighbors--we promise that you'll be nearly out of range of Ken's snoring. Please see our MLS listing.
