September 2018 Newsdumpster

SEPTEMBER 2018

To the Untrained Ear, Baby Frogs Can Sound Confusingly Like Crickets.

We just got back from our 2018 Into the Cornfield Tour of six weeks in Maine and the Midwest, and once again, are delighted to be home. In a few days, we'll be hosting our Redwood City, CA friends, Karla and Khoi of the Corner Laughers , as well as our Nottinghamshire, UK friends, Helen and Mark, aka Fun of the Pier. In clever fashion, the shows will be titled Meet Me in the Middle. In addition to frolicking around Vermont for about a week, we will also be frolicking on stage, with two shows in Vermont.

We've waxed eloquent on the virtues of Vermont many times in the Newsdumpster, but we've never waned incoherent about what we don't like about our home state until now:

  • The lovely, rolling hills tend to interrupt mobile phone and satellite radio signals.
  • Our antique covered bridges and barns are hopelessly susceptible to termites, which are a huge problem in states with termites, of which Vermont is not.
  • The stunning fall colors remind one of the brevity of life and the imminent, endless winter of death.
  • Maple syrup is quite high in calories.
  • Soft serve ice cream is called a creemee. As a New York egg cream contains neither eggs nor cream, a Vermont creemee contains neither cree nor mee.
  • Vermont has a secret fifth season called mud season that spans mid-March through mid-June. Nobody visits, nobody goes outside, and a pall of gloom descends upon the hills and the trees.
  • It's really hard to make a living.
  • Winter is really long; did I mention that?

Please visit our 2018 Into the Cornfield  photo album if you like that sort of thing. And there's also our 2018 Home Turf photo album from around these parts.

Robert: "Is climate change real?"
Bob: "Well, neither Hungrytown.net nor Facebook.com/hungrytown mention it, so I guess not."
Robert: "[unblinking silence]"
