They Also Have 85 MPH (137 km/h) Highways. Too Bad the Blue Meanie Can Hardly Go Above 70 (113).
We're winding up the Florida portion of our 2018 Further West Tour, and about to continue, well, further west. As you may know, this tour began in December and will end in early April. After a couple of whistle stops in Alabama and Mississippi, we'll spend most of February in Texas, where we'll do seven shows throughout that gigantic state.
When we travel abroad, there is perhaps no state that captures the abroaders' imaginations like the Lone Star State, which seems to embody everything that is exotic, grand and unique about America. We tend to agree, and try to learn a little more about Texas every year we go there.
Here is what we've gathered so far, in light of the fact that we're starting to get a little homesick:
Highest point: Texas: Guadelupe Peak, at 8,571 feet (2,667 m) above sea level Vermont: Mt. Mansfield, at 4,395 feet (1,340) Point: Texas
Lowest point: Texas: Gulf of Mexico, at 0 feet (0 m) above sea level Vermont: Lake Champlain, at 95 feet (29 m) above sea level Point: Texas
Population density: Texas: 105 per sq mile Vermont: 67 per sq mile Point: Vermont
Varieties of squirrel: Texas: 10 Vermont: 3 Point: Texas
Maple syrup production, 2017: Texas: 0 Vermont: 1,980,000 Point: Vermont
Barbecue enthusiasm ranking out of 51: Texas: 4 Vermont: 49 Point: Texas
In conclusion, Vermont would fit into Texas nearly 28 times. Of course, that would leave us with the problem of where to find 27 more Vermonts and what to do with nearly 30-million displaced Texans. It would make winter a lot nicer, however.
We are well into Part 2 of our 2018 Further West Tour photo albums. Part 1 was filled up ages ago.
